Lines

If it is true that “Lines are results,” and we “do not draw them for themselves”* as Robert Henri said, then we will move past drawing and painting lines as only representing themselves. A two year old I know recently discovered that lines could be joined to form a representation of her hand. It was a life changing moment. She went from making random marks on paper, to carefully considering the placement of her marks to represent a real object.
